Best Tips for Organizing Bedroom Drawers
1. Take it slow
Organizing bedroom drawers can seem like a daunting task. I will open up a drawer and see a bunch of scattered shirts and pants and lose track of what is in there. Sometimes, it is best to just choose one drawer to focus on. So feel free to start small and organize one drawer at a time. Start by emptying a drawer, donate what you do not need, fold up what is there and organize as best as you can. Organizing small sections at a time is less intimidating than emptying your whole dresser at once.
2. Set a timer
Everyone is so busy nowadays, that setting aside a whole day to organize might not be possible or the most fun way to spend a Saturday. Setting aside fifteen minutes to organize your bedroom drawers is a lot more doable and can even be done after a long day at work. To do this, pull out your phone or computer and set up a timer for 15 minutes to organize your bedroom drawers as much as you can. At the end of the 15 minutes, you can continue if you feel like it or shut the drawer and feel good about making a dent in your organization journey.
3. Make it fun
Another hack for organizing is to always make it fun and not a chore! To make the time go by faster, listen to a good podcast or music. My favorite podcast is Threedom! Listening to music is also a great solution, type in a decade or genre into spotify and listen to a playlist that pops up. Organizing will suddenly become a dance party and something to look forward to!
4. Declutter
Removing items from drawers can make organizing bedroom drawers a lot easier. Choose one drawer and remove everything. Browse each item and categorize it into keep or donate. If you see items that you do not plan on wearing anymore and consider donating them. Then if there are seasonal items, remove those items and put them away in storage or a spare closet. It is a lot easier to get items in and out if you have more space.
5. Section
Organizing your bedroom drawers in sections can help out a lot. After a while, your drawers can have a few different items spread out all over the place. Change it up by having one drawer dedicated to pants, one drawer dedicated to shirts, one drawer dedicated to activewear and so on. Organizing drawers by sections can simplify choosing an outfit.
6. Add dividers
Including dividers in your drawers is a great option for organizing bedroom drawers. Separators are perfect for items like socks that are difficult to fold. Dividers are also a great choice to keeping items in different colors separated or if you have clothes like pants or shirts in the same bedroom drawer.
7. Optimize
This could be the most important tip! Have items like socks or other clothing items that you are grabbing often in easy to reach drawers. For me, this tends to be the middle drawers, but it depends on your height. Other items that you may not wear everyday, like jeans, you could put in harder to reach drawers like the top or bottom drawer. This will make getting dressed a lot easier.
8. Folding
This is a game changer for keeping your bedroom drawers organized! I used to have a big pile of mismatched clothes in my bedroom drawers. It was such a pain to organize it every week. After folding my clothes differently by rolling them, it is a lot easier to keep track of my clothes. This folding method leaves my clothes with less wrinkles and I have more space in my drawers.
9. Take note of what works
As nice as it would be to organize once and have it stay put, organizing can be an ongoing effort. After you have implemented these new organizing hacks, take note over what works and what does not after a month. Maybe you noticed that a divider does not work well for certain clothes. Rearrange your drawers again and see which clothes are better suited to be put in a closet. Maybe consider different type of dividers as well.
10. Get a basket
If you are getting ready quickly in the morning and taking out a few items, consider buying a decorative basket to put next to your dresser. Then before you leave the house, put the unfolded clothes into the basket. Then your room will be tidy and your can fold the clothes again later. This prevents the dreaded pile of unfolded clothes in the drawer.
